Maverick's story almost ended before it ever had a chance to begin.
This handsome Belgian Malinois mix was abandoned in a field by a backyard breeder and left to fend for himself. When he was found, he was terrified of people and so overwhelmed by fear that he would try to hurt himself just to escape human contact.
Through the teamwork and dedication of Grundy County Animal Control and Wags 2 Wishes Rescue, Maverick was given a second chance. Today, he is in training, learning that the world isn't such a scary place after all. With patience and consistency, Maverick has done a 180.
We like to joke that we've "tamed the dragon” but the truth is, Maverick was never a dragon. He was simply a scared dog waiting for someone to believe in him.
And now, he's showing the world exactly who he was meant to be.
